Loucia Carlier

Artist Portrait

THIRD BORN is pleased to present a solo booth by Loucia Carlier within the fair’s Projects Section booth A10. Carlier’s presentation explores the ambivalence between imagination and conditioning as they operate in our domestic lives. Carlier presents an extension her latest series Cheap Dreams conceived throughout her time at La Becque residency in Switzerland where she uses the miniature as not only a vehicle for reverie, but a critical field for studying manipulation and repression. By reactivating the miniature scale. Carlier reminds us—as adults—that the ordinary and mundane are neither neutral nor unspecial. Rather, they form a subtle matrix of entrapment, where the most unconscious “choices” are often those most deeply shaped by coercion.

Loucia Carlier (b. 1992, Paris) received her BA and MA in Visual Arts from ECAL (École cantonale d’art de Lausanne) in 2015 and 2017. She was awarded the Révélation Emerige Prize in 2020 and has been in residence at Villa Belleville (2023), Cité internationale des arts (2024), and La Becque (2019; 2025). Recent exhibitions include: Crossing the Chasm, THIRD BORN, Mexico City (2025); Effets indésirables, New Galerie, Paris (2025); Artocène Biennale, Saint-Gervais-Mont-Blanc (2025); PAR-A-FRA-SE, Heroine, Frankfurt (2024); Le Nouveau Printemps de Toulouse (2024); Lunulae, CAC Brétigny (2023); 67ème Salon de Montrouge (2023); Genitoculture, Forde, Geneva (2022); Make It Up!, Ateliers de la Ville de Marseille (2022); and Your Friends and Neighbors, High Art, Paris (2019).
